Content Policy

1. Purpose

This Content Policy governs what you may search for, submit, and share on Vaguely. Vaguely is a memory-assistance search engine designed to help users identify cultural artefacts — films, shows, songs, podcasts, products, images, and more — that they half-remember. This policy ensures the Service remains safe, lawful, and useful for everyone.

2. Permitted Use

The Service is intended for good-faith searches to identify things you genuinely cannot remember. You may search for and discuss content from any legally published or publicly broadcast media, including but not limited to films, television programmes, music, podcasts, books, products, and internet culture.

3. Prohibited Content

The following is strictly prohibited on Vaguely:

• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any content that sexualises minors, in any form. As an operator based in Ontario, Canada, we are legally required under the Criminal Code of Canada to report such material to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) at cybertip.ca, and are also obligated to report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline where applicable. We will cooperate fully with law enforcement in Canada and internationally.
• Content designed to facilitate violence, terrorism, or hate crimes against any individual or group.
• Searches designed to identify, locate, or gather information about a specific private individual without their consent (doxxing).
• Content that infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party.
• Searches or submissions that constitute harassment, stalking, or targeted abuse of any individual.
• Deliberately false or misleading confirmed identifications submitted to deceive other users.
• Spam, automated bulk submissions, or any content submitted through automated means without authorisation.

4. Adult Content

Vaguely does not permit searching for, sharing, or linking to sexually explicit content. This applies to all versions of the Service including the web application and mobile apps. This policy is enforced technically through our AI content filters.

5. Confirmed Identifications and Community Memory

When you confirm a search result using the 'This is it!' feature, that confirmation contributes to our community memory database. By confirming a result, you represent that to the best of your knowledge the identification is accurate. Deliberate false confirmations intended to mislead other users violate these Terms and may result in account suspension.

6. Search Results and AI Output

Search results are generated by AI and may contain errors, inaccuracies, or outdated information. We do not endorse the accuracy of any search result. Search results are intended to assist users in identifying cultural content from memory and should not be relied upon for medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions. Users are encouraged to verify results independently.

7. Enforcement

We reserve the right to remove any content, suspend any account, and report any activity that violates this policy or applicable law, at our sole discretion, without prior notice. Repeated or serious violations will result in permanent account termination.

8. Reporting Violations

To report content that violates this policy, contact: info@vaguely.app. Include a description of the violation and any relevant details. We investigate all reports promptly.

9. Changes

This Content Policy may be updated as the Service evolves. Material changes will take effect no sooner than 14 days after notice is posted on this page. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
